GOD REVEALS HIMSELF TO YOU
It’s become one of my favorite moments of the day. After waking up and pouring
myself a bowl of cereal, I plop onto the sofa in the sunroom as the early
morning sun shines on the white pages of my Bible. The morning air is quiet and
fresh. It’s just me, God, and my Publix raisin bran. As He talks in the
Scriptures, I listen. As I talk in prayer, He listens.
Just recently, I have come to realize that it is a lot of work to try to read
the Bible in order to know more “stuff.” After all, we could study the Bible for
ages and ages and still catch only a glimpse of God. While most of my study of
God’s Word is aimed at preparation for the various teaching and preaching
responsibilities I have in a given week, I have come to a renewed appreciation
for those morning moments with my Maker.
No longer am I solely interested in pursuing greater knowledge of God so that I
may fill up a study with interesting facts or insights. Now I am passionately
interested in allowing the living God to actively pursue me through His Word.
Ironically, as I do, I find God actually speaking into my life and dropping
those same insights into my heart and He challenges, comforts and equips me to
live until Christ returns.
Pastor Mike has said that as a congregation, we are only as strong as we are
strong in the Word. Such a statement gets right to the point. The spiritual and
emotional health of our congregation has a direct correlation to the number of
members (and lay leaders) who are actively growing in the study of God’s Word
between worship services. Even further, such a declaration applies not as an
impersonal blanket statement referring to the whole congregation, but begins on
a personal level. It begins with you.
As we approach the New Year, our Discipleship Team is very excited to share with
you an experience which we know will change the way you interact with God. It’s
an interactive study series called “Shekhinah: Celebrating the Presence of
the God Who Makes Himself Known.”
Beginning Sunday, January 18, we’re kicking off our series with a Walk Thru
the Old Testament. Come and join us for a fun, interactive workshop which is
designed to help you learn more about the Scriptures so that you may grow in
faith and be equipped to share Christ with others. Then, each week between
January 18 and February 22 will feature topical sermons in Sunday worship and
midweek small group Bible studies, which are designed to help you learn more
about the Scriptures so that you may grow in faith and be equipped to share
Christ with others. It’s aimed at all our members – from children to adults, no
matter what you know or what you don’t – you’re welcome!
Through this, we’re praying that you will join this congregation-wide study and
allow God to make Himself known to you in a greater way. After all, our study of
the Old Testament is not intended to learn more facts about the Scriptures. Our
study of God is aimed at giving Him opportunities to allow Him to connect with
us – so that He may challenge, encourage, and equip us to live each day!
