Maintaining
our Focus
Ah,
the holidays! A time to gather with family and friends…to reflect…to rejoice…to
savor.
Unfortunately, all too often, the days from Thanksgiving to New Year’s become a
blur for many of our households as school concerts, staff parties; last minute
shopping and entertaining fill our schedules.
Lest you and
your family lose sight of the true “Reason for the Season,” we would like to
help you maintain your focus where it should properly be: on the Christ, Who IS
Christmas! We consider this to be a primary goal of ours: to assist you in
KNOWING HIM, that you might then be better able to make Him known.
To that end,
l invite you to join us this Advent season, as we center our weekend worship
services on the theme: “Behold, He Comes!” In
our Saturday and Sunday sermons, we’ll consider how those who lived before the
Promise of Bethlehem was fulfilled, as well as those of us who live today –
after His ascension to Heaven, look forward to His coming as Our Hope, Our
Comfort, Our Joy, and Our King.
On Wednesdays, at 11 a.m.
and again at 7 p.m. this Advent, we will “Witness
the Wonder” of the Nativity from the vantage point of the Angels, the
Shepherds, and Elizabeth (the cousin of Mary, and mother of John the Baptist).
Join us for these special services as we join together with these other
witnesses, to celebrate the wonder of God’s love made known in the birth of His
Son! The evening services will be preceded by a meal.
As you will likely see in
another place in this newsletter, our Sunday School children will be presenting
“I Saw a Light,” a Christmas musical which Tim wrote with a couple of
others a few years ago. The presentation will take place during our 7 p.m.
service time on Wednesday, December 10th, again at 7 p.m. on Friday,
December 12th, and in place of our 5:30 p.m. service on Saturday,
December 13th. I pray you will find time to come out and support our
young people as they seek to share this important story with us and our
community. Bring a friend!
Moving
beyond the holidays, and into 2009, we will be further developing the challenge
I laid out for us in my last newsletter article:
That we might remain focused on the calling
that our founding members took so seriously 50 years ago, I would ask each of
our current members to use this year as a year of rededication to our mission:
“TO KNOW CHRIST AND TO MAKE HIM KNOWN!”
Specifically, I am asking every individual
associated with CTK to dedicate themselves to growing in their knowledge of God
by pledging themselves to consistent weekly worship and Bible class attendance:
DO something to get to know Him better! Further, I would ask that
you make a dedicated pledge of your time, talent and treasure to the service of
the One we call King: DO something to make Him known! Watch for
more details from our Discipleship team.
Rejoice in His Promise for
each of you! Merry Christmas! Happy New Year!
Pastor Mike
